My brother's cat
In the heart of a busy city Dhaka, I’ve found an unexpected companion in my neighbor’s cat, Milky. He was named "Milky" for his white and orange combined skin. Every morning, without fail, It lies on the windowsill, silently observing the world below. It’s calm presence has become a comforting part of my daily routine.
Milky’s life, though confined to It’s apartment, is one of quiet contemplation. It watches the city unfold, it’s gaze following pedestrians, bicycles, and cars. I often wonder what goes through it’s mind as it sits there, its tail flicking lazily. Sometime, i wonder, how did it stay by the window on the 4th floor without any hesitation. Does it have any fear of falling from so high? Does it dream of adventures beyond the window? Or is it simply content to watch the world pass by?
Despite our inability to communicate verbally, Milly and I have developed a unique connection. Our shared window time has created a bond rooted in mutual curiosity and respect. It’s a reminder to slow down, appreciate the simple moments, and find peace in the everyday.
It’s presence has taught me valuable lessons about patience, observation, and the art of living in the moment. More specifically it has taught me to be lazy, pass the time without any tension, pressure or anything. Milky, the cat, has become more than just a feline companion; It’’s a source of inspiration and a reminder of the unexpected joys that can be found in the most ordinary places.
Our first encounter was a chance meeting in the hallway. Milky (about 2 or 3 weeks old) had slipped out of it’s apartment, and as I approached, it looked at me with curious eyes. It was more than curious eyes as I felt how terrified it was to see a new person. I crouched down, and to my surprise, it rubbed it’s head against my hand. It was a brief but meaningful encounter that marked the beginning of our friendship. Milky always replies to his owner. I feel wonder to see their bonding. No words can describe that feeling.
From it’s windowsill perch, watches the world with a calm detachment. It’s presence has become a source of comfort for me, a reminder that sometimes, it’s okay to simply observe and let life happen without feeling the need to constantly engage. Moreover, it's a very healthy cat, it fears a lot. I have never seen Milky to kill a mice or any animal. I am a familiar person so it doesn't fear me but when an unknown person comes at home, it just goes under the bed.
Milky has become an unexpected part of my life. It’s a companion, a teacher, and a source of inspiration. It’s quiet demeanor and unwavering presence have enriched my daily routine in ways I never imagined. I always wanted to have a pet cat, but my mother never allowed it. Finally my wish has come true with Milky .
While we may never have a full conversation, our bond is undeniable. Milky has taught me the value of observation, of being present, and of finding peace in the everyday. It is a reminder that sometimes, the best friendships are the quiet ones, built on shared moments of stillness and mutual understanding.
