My experience as a university student

Starting university felt like stepping into a whole new world. As I began my journey as a university student, I had no idea what to expect from this new chapter in my life. My experience as a Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) student so far has been a mix of excitement, challenges, and personal growth. I am currently completing my second semester. Looking back to my first semester, I realise it was filled with both challenges and rewards. Today I’m going to share some of my experiences.

Being a university student is a unique experience. In addition to handling my academic pressure, I have to manage my own time, budget and decisions. It was a little overwhelming at first, but over time, I’ve become familiar with these tasks.

The first few weeks were really difficult for me. I struggled to keep up with everything. The lectures were fast paced and most of the concepts were new to me. Electrical and Electronics Engineering is not an easy field, and the amount of content we cover is vast. So I had to make extra efforts to keep up with the material. There were times where I had to sacrifice my sleep to complete my tasks. But now I have learned how to balance my schoolwork and sleep.

University is very different from high school. There is no one here to remind you of your homework or assignments. It’s completely up to you. You have to take the initiative to ask questions and seek help when you need it. Otherwise, you will fall behind from others. At first, I felt hesitant to ask for help but during the consultation hours, my lecturers were really helpful and patient with me.

University is not just a place for academic learning, it's also about building connections. At first, I was nervous about making friends and fitting in. But through classes, I quickly found a group of friends who share my passion for engineering. They have been a great help to me. We created a study group to help each other and prepare for the exams.

While academics took up the most of my time, I also tried to involve myself in the social side of university life. Because we occasionally need to take a break from our studies. There are a variety of clubs in our university. I have joined some clubs and attended some events. These activities helped me to relax and enjoy.

As I reflect on my university experience so far, I realise how much I’ve grown. I can still remember how everything was new to me during my first semester. But I still managed to overcome the challenges I faced. As I continue my university journey over the next 3-4 years, I'm excited about what lies ahead and ready to face new difficulties. Now I feel more confident in balancing my personal life and studies.
